Elementary Secondary Other programs

Elementary

Classes

Our primary school program fulfills the standard requirements of an elementary education, including reading, writing, and arithmetic. The reading program is phonics-based. The elementary students are taught in a warm, nurturing environment, using of plenty of hands-on, creative projects that promote active learning. As we believe that children ought to learn about the culture they live in, we also offer Czech classes to our elementary students.

Class Trips

The elementary students regularly go on class outings. In the past, they have visited the historical recreation of a Czech village from the 1500s at Botanicus Village; the animals at the Prague Zoo; the stars and planets at the planetarium at Vystaviste; the fish at the aquarium at Vystaviste the trams and old cars at the National Transportation Museum; and the extensive natural history exhibits at the National Museum.

We use a block scheduling systems for our classes to make the schedule friendly to home-schoolers and those in Czech school that want to attend CISP part-time.

Arts/Drama/Music Clubs and Events

At CISP, we want our students to explore their world creatively, so we emphasize artistic expression. In the past, students have participated in skits, productions such as the Christmas musical, I-Witness News: Bethlehem, The Best Christmas Pageant Ever, and Neil Simon’s play Fools.

Along with our drama and music clubs, we are pleased to offer a swing dance club as well. Our students recently performed two numbers at our Winter Banquet with Rockin’ Robin and On the Sunny Side of the Street.

Class Trips

Our secondary students regularly take class trips to destinations both local and far away. In the past, our secondary students visited: the recreation of a 16th century Czech village, Botanicus Village; Alphonse Mucha's giant mural "Slavic Epic"at the castle at Moravsky Krumlov; various art museums around Prague; and the stark reminders of the Holocaust in the Old Jewish Quarter of Prague and the concentration camp at Terezin.

In the upcoming year, some of the secondary students will be traveling through Germany to visit sites that played an important role in the Protestant Reformation.

Service Projects

At CISP, we believe we are called to train not just the mind, but the heart as well. We are called by Jesus to be servants, and we want our students to develop servant hearts. So an important part of the education of our secondary students is "service projects"¯ where students go out of the classroom and into the community to serve. Past service projects have included picking up trash in a local park, assisting at a fund-raiser to help refugees in Sudan, helping out with a ministry to Gypsy children, serving as ushers at a conference that was held in Prague, and helping to watch and entertain children during a church retreat. In this way, we hope to open our students' eyes to opportunities for service around them.

Other programs

The TNT (Tuesday and Thursday) Program

The TNT program is specifically designed to help families who have children in Czech schools who would like their children to have some of their education in English, or families who home school and would like to participate in CISP only part-time. As the name suggests, the program runs on Tuesdays and Thursdays. We offer an integrated program of history and literature, as well as science, music, physical education and art.

The ESL/TNT

In order to help students who may not have learned English yet, we offer a TNT with a concentration in English as a Second Language. This program is shorter than the normal TNT, but has a concentration in teaching English to children. Besides getting English classes, the children also attend music, art, and physical education classes in English.

The Half-Time Program

This program is offered to secondary students (7th through 12th grades). Students may take any 3 or 4 classes that are offered to full-time secondary students, provided they have fulfilled the prerequisites for those classes. In this way, home-schoolers can take only the classes they want or need to take.
