What Does It Mean to Be a Missionary-Teacher
- Teaching at the Christian International School of Prague means being a missionary. We ask all of our staff to raise their own support. While this can be a scary process for some prospective teachers, we feel it is necessary and helpful for the following reasons:
- It solidifies your call. We want teachers who have been called by God to serve in this way. Raising support is one way that God can communicate whether or not he truly wants you in Prague teaching at this school.
- It is a faith-strengthening process. While support-raising can be difficult, God can use it to build your trust in him. Further, it strengthens your own sense of dependence on him as you see him provide what you need.
- It helps keep our tuition low. We strive to keep tuition as affordable for everybody as possible. Some are missionary families who have a limited income. Others are Czech families who cannot afford a high tuition. The single biggest expense of any typical school is teacher salaries. We seek to serve families who need a Christian education for their children by asking our teachers to raise their own living expenses and salaries.
- It provides you with prayer support. When raising support, raising money is only part of the picture, and not even the most important part. You will also be asking people to pray for you and for God's provision and grace in your life. You will find that prayer support crucial during your time in Prague. You need people who are presenting the challenges you will face before the throne of God.
- It provides feedback and accountability. Raising support, either through your home church, or through a sending organization, helps provide valuable feedback about your own readiness to handle a cross-cultural situation and your own spiritual maturity. Further, being connected to a sending organization or a church gives you people who will ask you how you are coping with the different pressures of being a missionary teacher.
- While support-raising can be daunting, you need not do it alone. Once you go through the application process and are approved, we can help by providing you advice from people who are experienced at raising and maintaining support.

Help with Student Loans
At CISP, we understand that many of our teachers have recently graduated from college and have large student loans. However, in most cases, those loans can be deferred for up to three years or longer, so they should pose no obstacle for someone who is truly interested in serving at CISP. (For more details, please check out this website.)
We also can provide additional help. To show that we value teachers who make a long-term commitment, we have a way to help with student loans. For any full-time teacher who commits himself or herself to teaching at CISP for at least two years, we offer $2400 to go towards helping to pay off student loans ($1200 at the end of one year, and $1200 at the end of the second year). We believe our teachers are an important part of the CISP community, and we want to encourage them in any way we can.
